We all know intuituvely that good health involves a balanced diet, exercise, appropriate lifestyle, and right choices. We have all tried the latest diets: no carb, low carb, low fat, prepared menus, point plans, even pills  and had some short-term success. Over the long haul, we all come back to the same starting point – discouraged, unsatisfied and searching for a better way, one that works. There is no doubt all these diets work to some degree, but it’s the maintaining and sustaining that leaves us bewildered. For most of us, we slip back to our old routines, habits and patterns and sure enough the pounds revisit.
So What’s the Answer? Ayurveda may be your starting point. The Journey is up to you. Ayurveda is the science or knowledge of life. The empowerment of the individual to become aware of his/her own uniqueness or constitution. This uniqueness defines each of us as we were born to be expressed and has never changed. What has changed is our accumulated habits, food choices, work habits, and exercise habits; and they have caused an imbalance to our once balanced system.

Ayurveda. the 5000 year old medical system of India,  is considered to be the oldest healing system, and it is based on the rhythms and laws of nature.  Ayurveda believes that the five fundemental elements, ether, air, fire, water and earth are the building blocks of the universe.  The elements combine to form the doshas: vata, pitta and kapha.  The doshas govern all the functions of the body as well as the universe.  The combination of the doshas in an individual reveals their constitution (prakruti)- the unique psychophysical makeup, functional habits and how one uses energy.  When affected by our environment, lifestyle, diet, climate, seasons, time of life and stress the doshas get out of balance and this is called vikruti.  When we examine our imbalances we can make the necessary changes to achieve optimal health.
